Jean-Pierre Vazart is one of my favorite growers in Chouilly and his current release of
non-vintage Brut is lovely. This is base year 2013 and is still a bit tightly-knit, but it is a fine
bottle and should blossom beautifully with another six months of age. The bouquet is excellent,
wafting from the glass in a blend of pear, delicious apples, hazelnut, chalky minerality, brioche
and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, young and very promising, with
an excellent core, frothy mousse, snappy acids and lovely focus and grip on the long finish. This
is still a puppy and could use some time to unwind structurally, but the all the constituent
components are in place! 2017-2030+.
