As fantastic as M. Pontallier feels this vintage is, we unfortunately found this year's 2006 effort to be somewhat less of the show stopper than their outstanding 2005 was.

2006 Margaux - 91-94 Margaux
A dark, intense core is surrounded by a bright fuchsia rim. Light aromas of jasmine and lilac up front are underscored by dark berry fruits, sweet blackberry and light earthy notes. Young oak is apparent on the front of the palate. The tannins are strong, but this is not quite as voluptuous and bold a wine as was their impressive 2005. The finish is long with spicy cinnamon, cedar and hints of licorice. Nevertheless, this effort leaves a bit to be desired. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. -Mike Supple
