So after a night of much needed sleep we began today with a tasting of the 2008 lineup from Jean-Pierre Moueix. While the company has been run since the 1970s by Jean-Pierre’s son Christian, it still retains the name of its founder who started the business as a wine merchant in Libourne in 1937. The company is still there today, with their office and warehouse space located in a row of buildings built in the 19th century along the Dordogne River.

This is my first trip to Bordeaux and in preparation I had asked my colleagues for some idea of what to expect. Their response - get ready to not sleep all week because this will be intense. I'm a relatively new parent so I thought I had the no sleeping thing down pat. As for intensity, how hard could it be to taste wine all day? This is what I've dreamed about even before I got into the industry.

There are 6 of us from J.J. Buckley who made the trip to Bordeaux for this years’ 2009 ‘en primeur’ tasting of the 2008 vintage. We hit the ground running - as soon as we landed and picked-up our rental car, stopped by one of our suppliers to preview the vintage.
