Have you got a taste for mature Bordeaux and not a lot of patience? This is for you. We’ve just taken delivery of a chateau-direct parcel of 1999 Haut-Bergey, a wine that Robert Parker calls “classic Graves”, and we have it available for over 40% off and the best price around!

Haut-Bergey is a favorite of ours here at JJ Buckley and we've been fans of the work of its owners, the Garcin family, for some time. Hélène Garcin runs the estate today, following on from her mother Sylvaine Garcin-Cathiard whose initial purchase instigated, per Parker, “one of the most amazing quality turn-arounds I have ever seen.” The family is also behind such estates as Barde-Haut in Saint Emilion and Clos l’Eglise in Pomerol, among others. The family clearly knows a thing or two about quality Bordeaux wine, not to mention that Hélène’s uncle Daniel Cathiard owns Pessac-Léognan classified growth Smith-Haut-Laffite.

Though it’s not a classified growth, Haut-Bergey enjoys a sterling reputation. That should come as no surprise when you consider that both Michel Rolland and Jean-Luc Thunevin have consulted here. What’s more, it remains keenly priced vis-à-vis its classified neighbors. Parker calls it “consistently one of the top, under-the-radar wines of Pessac-Léognan.”

Parker’s calls the 1999 Haut-Bergey “a model of elegance and symmetry."  Eighteen years on from the vintage date, aromas and flavors of dried black fruits, damp earth and tobacco come to the fore. The tannic structure has softened considerably but remains intact, giving undeniable pleasure though with plenty of life in it yet.

Fully mature Bordeaux from one of our favorite producers at a price like this does not come around often, and doesn’t last long when it does. If you’re not already a buyer of Haut-Bergey, grab a case of this and see what all the fuss about, and why Parker calls it “a star of Pessac-Léognan." At this price, it's easy to do!  Cheers!
