"This property has been on a qualitative roll and still remains one of Bordeaux’s finest values." - Robert Parker

From a property that Parker has hailed as “the reference point for Fronsac given its performances over the last decade,” comes the 2002 La Vieille Cure, which we have available today in magnum format for a steal of a price.

At just over 15 years of age, this is fully mature effort is drinking exquisitely right now. When we opened one of these mags we were taken by the increased complexity that you’ll only find in mature, quality Bordeaux, particularly when aged in large formats.

The appellation is a stone’s throw from Pomerol, and La Vieille Cure is situated in what Chris Kissack calls “a quality hotspot for Fronsac.” The estate has been under American ownership since 1986 and considerable investment has seen it become “arguably the bright, shining star of Fronsac," per Robert Parker.

Fronsac itself flies under the radar and doesn’t often get the credit it’s due, but it can offer a very healthy quality/price ratio. Jancis Robinson’s assessment is that Fronsac “can offer a keenly priced alternative to more famous red Bordeaux, with the juicy fruit of a St-Emilion and the ageing potential of a Médoc.”

Location plays one role in why this is such a value, but factor in the 2002 vintage (per Parker, the vintage “will find a place with shrewd consumers who drink wines rather than labels, and buy quality as opposed to vintage reputations”), and you end up with a special wine for an unparalleled price.

Our parcel comes with perfect provenance and La Vieille Cure is an old favorite among our team and our customers. But if one thing is certain, our stock never lasts very long. If you aren’t already all over la Vieille Cure, now is the time! Cheers!
