2006 Chateau Barde-Haut Saint Emilion Grand Cru

"Barde-Haut is an impressively run estate that has been fashioning outstanding as well as reasonably priced wines..." - Robert Parker
Here’s a wonderfully mature effort from a producer that Robert Parker has praised as "one of my go-to, consistently excellent St.-Emilions that tends to over-perform its pedigree" as well as "one of the super values in Bordeaux", and we’ve got it today for a terrific sale price!
Barde-Haut is part of the family-owned Vignobles Garcin, alongside Clos L’Eglise in Pomerol and Haut-Bergey in Pessac-Léognan, among others. The vineyards are extremely well-situated, not far from top names like Troplong Mondot, Trottevielle, La Mondotte, and rising star Tour Saint Christophe.
The Garcin family bought the property in 2000, and, per Parker, “has been pushing quality ever since.” Their hard work was recognized in 2012 when it was elevated to Grand Cru Classé status, though positive transformations were well underway even before this 2006 vintage.
Just after its tenth birthday, we found the 2006 Barde Haut to be drinking wonderfully, in line with Parker’s assessment of a “disarmingly charming” wine. This is a seriously smart buy as a house wine while your trophies age, and it has still got a whole lot of life in it yet. Buy a case today and enjoy over the next 5-10 years. Cheers!
