2006 Terredora Taurasi Campore
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $29.94 (reg. $59.94)
One of the great cellar-worthy wines of Italy, Taurasi is regularly held up as a southern peer to Barolo, and no family has done more to elevate this wine than Mastroberardino. Today’s 2006 ‘Campore’ is a Mastroberardino in all but name (and price) from the very same vineyard that once went into Mastroberardino’s legendary Taurasi ‘Radici.’ Terredora was formed when the historic Mastroberardino estate was broken up in 1994 and Walter Mastroberardino got the vineyards, but not the name.
This 94-point gem has the same old-vine pedigree and volcanic terroir that made Mastroberardino a legend, and it's available in the US only from JJ Buckley, at 50% off our regular price!
The Taurasi ‘Radici’ single-handedly turned Aglianico into a world-renowned variety and helped guide Southern Italy’s greatest appellation towards international recognition. Taurasi is well known for intense structure and gripping tannin, so it is best enjoyed with age.
At 12 years old, the Terredora ‘Campore’ is just now entering its best years. A “deep and sensual” red (Galloni), the perfectly matured Taurasi could trick you into thinking it was a left-bank Bordeaux with cigar box, leather, and pressed flowers, but it carries that unique Aglianico charm with red and black licorice, walnut, and mouth-watering acidity. Pair it with an endless variety of roasted meats, charcuterie or even grilled vegetables and you’ll be transported to Campania in a heartbeat. Enjoy today or cellar for another ten years as the 2006 Campore will go the distance!
