"...a standout wine...it is impossible to forget."
- 94 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Whether you’re a seasoned appreciator of Southern Italian reds or curious as to what all the fuss is about, the Bisceglia ‘Gudarra’ Riserva is a mature Aglianico that is sure to please. Like Barolo or Bordeaux, Aglianico can demand a decade of patience before its true qualities emerge, but we've taking the waiting part out of the equation with this aged gem. At just $24.94 (the lowest price around!) and 94-points from the Wine Advocate this is a no-brainer purchase that you should load up on by the case!
Bisceglia had their first vintage in 2001 and has been impressing critics ever since. Monica Larner of the Wine advocate has praised Bisceglia’s wines as “fantastic value and very high quality” and awarded 94 points to this ‘Gudarra’ calling it “impossible to forget.” Galloni too has been effusive in his appreciation, marking Bisceglia as “one of my favorite producers in Basilicata for bold wines loaded with personality."
Grown on the slopes of the extinct volcano Mount Vulture in Basilicata, Aglianico del Vulture is, like Taurasi in neighboring Campania, made from 100% Aglianico. It continues to be one of the most underappreciated great wines of Europe thanks to its ageability and food worthy profile. The wine’s blessed terroir and natural acidity means it is rarely too ripe despite the extreme Southern Italian sun.
With a profile of dark fruits, star anise and earth, this Aglianico won't let you forget the stunning volcanic terroir of Basilicata. While giving Aglianico the appropriate bottle age is so vital to its appreciation, the task of waiting has been done for you, and this ten year old gem will satisfy your palate and wallet! Cheers!
