Montosoli has long been regarded as one of the finest crus in Italy and is one of the “most distinct and profound” sites in all Montalcino according to the Wine Advocate. Year after year this is the source some of the most sought after Brunelli, like the highly collectible Altesino ‘Montesoli’, and this is a vintage not to be missed for the legendary cru.
2010 was declared the “top Brunello di Montalcino vintage of the new millennium” by the Wine Advocate and the 2010 Altesino ‘Montosoli’ has been praised by critics as one of the best of the vintage, earning the #18 spot on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 (with 98-points, it's the highest scoring Brunello on that list).
Altesino first bottled the groundbreaking Montesoli Brunello in 1975, and their 2010 not only honors that history with a distinctly classical style, it will no doubt demonstrate the mammoth aging potential of great Brunello.
Neighboring Caparzo proprietor Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini fought hard to acquire Altesino back in 2002, emerging victorious in a bidding war against Chateau Margaux. Since 2002 Angelini has helped modernize the estate, and today only a small portion of the aging is done in barrique (and the rest neutral oak). The 2010 Montesoli is sure to be a Brunello for the ages, developing over the next 2-3 decades, so be sure to load up on this back-vintage gem to track its long evolution. Cheers!
