"I found a lot to like in the 2010 Pinots from the Santa Lucia Highlands. The wines have excellent definition, lovely fruit and terrific overall balance..." - Antonio Galloni
When we offered this almost a year ago, it became one of our best-selling Pinots, so when we got a chance to offer it again we couldn't say no! The Santa Lucia Highlands is a great source for “wonderfully perfumed, supple and sexy” Pinot according to Antonio Galloni and the Bernardus wines certainly live up to that standard, being included in Robert Parker’s list of California’s Best Producers of Pinot Noir.
Already in possession of a brilliant track record, they really did a bang-up job in 2010! Six years after harvest and their 2010 lineup is still going strong, notably this absolutely captivating wine. For over 40% off and under $20, Pinot lovers take note – here’s your new house wine and a no-brainer case purchase!
Displaying fabulous typicity and balanced fruit, this offers a terrific introduction to the appellation. Opening with pure and ripe red fruit that’s enhanced by notes of baking spice and earth, this has really come into its own with some age and develops additional complexity with time in the glass. Still vibrant on the palate with a juicy core of fruit, this over-delivers with purity and class beating out many higher priced options and is a fantastic option to open any night of the week.
Far from being an over-the-top Pinot like many others at this price point, this balanced, elegant effort owes it all to winemaker Dean De Korth’s trained hand. Learning the ropes with notable producers Olivier Leflaive, Domaine de Comtes Lafon and Pierre Morey, that Burgundain perspective has been applied here and the result is a classy wine that will appeal to old and new world centric palates.
As seductive as the wine is to drink, the price is even more irresistible so stock up on this one by the case! Cheers!
