"Readers looking for Bordeaux at its most elegant with a strong Cabernet Franc personality, a la Cheval Blanc, should check out the finesse-filled, delicate offerings from Les Carmes Haut-Brion, a little treasure tucked beside Haut-Brion." - Robert Parker
2010 is, without doubt, one of the great Bordeaux vintages of recent memory. First Growth Haut-Brion unsurprisingly scored a perfect 100 points per Robert Parker – and will cost you upwards or $750. Why not save yourself the cash, and look instead to its charming neighbor Les Carmes Haut-Brion. We’ve come into a limited supply of their 2010 vintage, and Bordeaux enthusiasts are going to want a piece of it!
Once a part of the Haut-Brion vineyard, Les Carmes Haut-Brion benefits from similar excellent terroir. Alongside Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion, this small estate lies on Graves’ best soils, the deep gravel of Pessac. Bordeaux’s oldest winery, the esteemed Pape Clément, lies just down the road.
Described as a “tiny, jewel of an estate” by Parker, Les Carmes Haut-Brion may be relatively low-key when compared to its illustrious neighbors, but it’s no lightweight, and Parker has "been praising this estate's wines for a number of years."
Parker laments, "Sadly, Les Carmes-Haut-Brion's 10-acre vineyard, a petit bijou (jewel), is incapable of producing significant quantities." That's where we come in! This is a terrific opportunity to get your hands on an incredibly small production wine that occupies one of the great Bordeaux terroirs, and from one of the greatest Bordeaux vintages of all time. This one is just coming into its prime drinking window and is primed to go another 10-15 years, so make sure to get enough to chart its evolution for years to come. Cheers!
