"Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Ganuza is one of Rioja’s benchmark estates."
- Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
One of Rioja’s most prestigious cuvees, the ‘Trasnocho’ is undoubtedly one of Rioja’s top modern interpretations and with its long track record for aging is an easy choice for those who love high-quality Spanish reds. With previous offerings described as the “Chateau Latour of Rioja” by Robert Parker, Bodega Remirez de Ganuza is famous for making some of the most exceptional and distinctive wines in the entire country, and this 95-point 2010 is no exception. The best part is we've got it for easily the lowest price around!
By the time he started his own winery in 1989, Remirez de Ganuza was already Rioja’s most prominent vineyard broker. His extraordinary understanding of the terroirs of Rioja helped him become one of the region's top winemakers too. The ‘Trasnocho’ is inspired by a traditional technique of leaving the recently pressed grapes to rest overnight (trasnocho) to gently release the best part of the juice. De Ganuza developed a new system to gently press the grapes from the top half of each bunch using a slowly inflated pouch, which results in a supremely gentle pressing with no oxidation. Raised entirely in new French oak this is the best of the best for a modern style Rioja, with complex notes of sweet fruits, oak spice, and black berry fruits.
2010 was a standout vintage in Rioja (as was the case for nearly all of western Europe) and this will age exceptionally well, though Trasnocho’s captivating fruit will be hard to resist today. Cheers!
