"One of the new, up-and-coming estates in the Roussillon that needs to be on every wine lover's radar is the Domaine des Enfants..." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Languedoc-Roussillon is one of the best regions in France for experimentation, as evidenced by the influx of both talented vintners from other more storied regions, and adventurous up and comers. Domaine des Enfants is certainly of the latter category, and have already earned heaps of praise including 95pts from the Wine Advocate for this 2011 ‘Suis l’Etoile.’
"A hedonistic dream," for fans of both the Roussillon and Rhone’s more decadent, unapologetic side, the ‘Suis l’Etoile’, which translates to Follow the Star, is a superb choice under $40!
A blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Carignan, and 10% Syrah, the ‘Suis l’Etoile’ is aged only in older, classic demi-muid, which puts all the attention on the ample gorgeous fruit. Despite Domaine des Enfants being relatively young, many of their organically farmed vineyards are old-vine plantings, and farmed by horse rather than tractor. Their success has earned them a good deal of respect as producers of “exciting wines that I’d happily drink any day” (Wine Advocate) from a region now known as “the perfect playground" (Jancis Robinson).
Domaine des Enfants are making "gorgeous wines that show the classic richness and texture of the region, yet back it up with fabulous purity of fruit," per the Wine Advocate and their 2011 'Suis l'Etoile' checks all the boxes - high quality, great price and a decadent elixir that you can pop any night of the week. Cheers!
