2011 Pertimali Livio Sassetti Brunello di Montalcino
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $44.94 (reg. $54.94)
While Brunello is often a wine that must be hidden away in the deepest part of a cellar and ‘forgotten’ for a time, there comes a point where what we really want is a Brunello we can enjoy right now. The 2011 Pertimali from Montalcino icon Livio Sassetti is a delightful Sangiovese at a crazy good price, and rather than forget about it, you’ll want to keep this bottle on hand for whenever the Brunello mood strikes! Robert Parker has said that “if I had only one Brunello di Montalcino to drink it would have to be Pertimali" and it’s easy to see why. Showing an enticing blend of purple flowers and garden herbs with classic Sangiovese flavors of dark cherry, leather and balsamic, the 2011 Pertimali Brunello is delicious today and will keep getting better for the next decade.
Described as “one of Montalcino’s finest” by Galloni, Livio Sassetti has been “making spectacular wines since 1982” (Parker), and this vintage is a great chance to see what they’re talking about. The warm, open knit 2011 Brunelli are unusual in that the ripeness never overpowers typicity. So, you get gorgeously forward and open Sangiovese that nevertheless taste just like a Brunello should.
With the 2011 Brunelli offering terrific value and more immediate pleasure than 2010 or 2012, they present an outstanding opportunity to grab a few bottles to enjoy whenever you feel like it, and it's even better when you can do so at the best price around! Cheers!
