"This is one of my favorite estates in the region...They make exceptional reds at all levels, built to age...They deserve a lot more attention than they're getting, frankly. So, don't hesitate to start now." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
While we like to think of the so-called ‘New World’ as the wild west of wine, to Europe, Portugal has always been the most deserving of that title, as there are nearly endless new discoveries to be made for adventurous wine lovers. If you adore classic, old-world quality, we promise that the 2011 Quinta da Falora is right for you!
This delightful and age-worthy red from Quinta Falorca is made with 100% Touriga Nacional, Portugal’s finest red grape, and received 95-points from the Wine Advocate for its fusion of “power, finesse and seduction.” This is a stunningly enticing and powerful red wine that will age for decades and at available today for the best price around, this is surely proof that Portugal is one of the great value regions in all of Europe.
Portugal seems perpetually categorized as the next ‘big’ wine region despite having as long a history of winemaking as any other Mediterranean country. While the best can sometimes be a little harder to find, artisanal producers who have labored under the radar for many years can be a tremendous source of quality and value. The Quinta da Falorca estate has been owned by the Costa Barros de Figueiredo family for five generations, and produce only 500 cases of their Tourgia Nacional. Since the family modernized the estate 30 years ago, they've been praised for “making hand-crafted, complex and ageworthy wines” (Wine Advocate). If you’re just starting to explore Portuguese wines or looking to cross over into something new, 2011 is a classic vintage, one of the best ever, and is sure to please for many years. Cheers!
