2011 Robert Chevillon Nuits St Georges ‘Les Chaignots’ 1er Cru
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $59.94 (reg. $89.94)
Domaine Robert Chevillon is pretty much the definitive producer in Nuits St George, with eight premier crus crafted here. Their classic but meticulous methods allow each site to sing its own tune, and for the Les Chaignots with its 60-year-old vines, the tune is one of elegant red and black fruits, delicate oak, and minerality.
2011 clearly favored the Cote du Nuits and critics were all in on Robert Chevillon, with the Wine Advocate describing the Domaine as the “appellations benchmark producer,” producing some of the “most exceptional wine” in Nuits St George. As for 2011, while a charming year for near to mid-term drinking, the “better examples will go on for two decades or more” (Tanzer), which is right where this 2011 Chevillon sits. John Gilman declared the 2011 Les Chaignots a “ great vintage for this lovely premier cru” while Burghound described it as a “classic Chaignots of grace and harmony with no lack of aging potential.”
While the critics are effusive in their praise, the quality in the bottle is what really matters. A medium bodied charmer, the Les Chaignots shows its typical robust and spicy structure, and is just rounding into prime form with the potential for exceptional enjoyment through 2030. This outstanding Les Chaignots is a transparent representation of a lauded 1er cru, and at 30% off our regular price, it’s a sure way to take a peek at this highly respected producer. Cheers!
