2011 Tedeschi Valpolicella 'Maternigo'
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $19.94 (reg. $29.94)
This is Tedeschi’s first vintage released from their latest acquisition, an organically farmed vineyard in Valpolicella. The land, named Maternigo (meaning “motherland”), is idyllic and quintessentially Italian - woodlands, rolling olive groves, and unique vineyard sites. It's here that Tedeschi crafts their "traditional" and "balanced red" which you won't find elsewhere for under $20!
Galloni comments that, “these new releases from Tedeschi include a number of fabulous values,” and our 30% discount is icing on the cake. The Wine Advocate describes the wine as showing almost like it’s more coveted big brother, Amarone, indicating that it "drinks more like an Amarone than a simple Valpolicella Superiore." And with a few years under its belt, this is at its peak right now. When we tasted this, we were floored by its hallmark layers of opulent fruit, buttressed by bright acidity and fine tannins, and couldn't believe its sub-$20 price tag!
As the Wine Advocate notes, “the Tedeschi family produces wines that are always unique and distinguished," and the 2011 'Maternigo' fits that description to a T. If you're looking for a classic Italian red for an outstanding price, then pick this one up in quantity! Cheers!
