In contrast to California's high profile cult labels and corporate wineries, Oregon is full of tiny family projects, experimental vineyards, and short lived collaborations. One of our favorite things about tasting through so many Oregon Pinot Noirs is finding these small production gems that sail under the radar, like today’s 2012 Bomb Pinot Noir, a discovery we are delighted to have made. This straight up beautiful bottle of Pinot is Willamette Valley by way of California, with gorgeous layers of ripe fruit and spice, and is also a great example of a mature Oregon Pinot. With a scant 248 cases made, this little Pinot may have fallen through the cracks on release, but it earned 95pts and a ‘Highly Recommended’ designation from Wine Spectator and we are offering this perfectly aged, ready to drink 2012 for 35% off!

Started by a pair of oenophiles Jim Carney and Susan Weeden, Bomb was a labor of love that got lucky enough to work with Tony Rynder (Domaine Serene, Argyle), one of the Pacific Northwest’s most prolific and successful winemakers, and they employed local artists for the labels of each vintage. 2012 was a “pinot vintage for the record books” (Vinous), and it was Bomb’s highest scoring Pinot ever. “Supple, expressive, multilayered and harmonious,” its decadent fruit and spice will appeal to California Pinot fans as well as Oregon. This is a fabulous discovery and a great example of how well Oregon Pinot can age, so don’t miss it!

95 points & Highly Recommended, Wine Spectator: "This wine manages to walk the tightrope of richness and finesse, and it does it with swagger. It's no surprise that this powerful, highly concentrated Chardonnay was fermented in new oak barrels after a hiatus in 2018 – it certainly has the stuffing to take it. Hunting Hill is Kumeu's most reductive Chardonnay but its influence remains subtle, bringing the merest flint note and added tension to the nectarine and lemon peel flavors. Poised and well judged."
