2012 Chateau Pichon-Baron (magnums)
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $199.94 (reg. $244.94)
For lovers of fine Bordeaux, little needs to be said about this five-star Pauillac producer. Part of Robert Parker's "Magical 20", a list that Parker considers "wines of 1st growth quality...that are undervalued and smart acquisitions", Pichon Baron is the epitome of what Bordeaux lovers know as a "Super Second”
Collectors take note - we just received a parcel of magnums from this illustrious producer. This is a rare opportunity that usually only comes to those who secure the allocation as futures, and we’ve got these large format bottles for easily the best price around.
With vineyards that overlook Chateau Latour ("most of the old vine Cabernet Sauvignon from their parcels near Latour made it into the 2012 Pichon Longueville Baron’s final blend"), the 2012 Pichon Baron is “another great classic” per Parker. Critic Neal Martin describes the 2012 as "much more classic in style than recent vintages – in fact, more like Latour!"
Notoriously a wine of power - rich in tannin and often described as being both muscular and elegant – Pichon Baron is also noted for exceptional length and remarkable aging potential. Poised to hold strong for 20 years from regular sized bottlings, the magnum format ought to permit this to go even longer!
Offering up loads of Pauillac character, this Cabernet-based beauty delivers ample dark fruit, well-integrated savory notes and signature gravelly grip. A “strong effort”, for 2012 Pauillacs it topped notable heavyweights Lafite and Lynch Bages and was only surpassed in Parker’s rankings by a pair First Growths, Mouton and Latour!
Bordeaux fans, add this one to your collection now! Cheers
