"Clos Saint Jean is at the top of their game and producing some of the most singular, hedonistic and brilliant wines in the world." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
From Clos Saint Jean, an estate that has been on a tear for the past decade and change, this 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape is a colossal value for what comes in the bottle: a dark, decadent, elixir of hedonistic CdP. In a vintage that resulted in wines that are “classic in style and loaded with Provencal charm,” the 2012 Clos Saint Jean lives up to the year and the winery’s reputation.
With winemaker Philippe Cambie, the Maurel brothers have been "knocking it out of the park in literally every vintage" with a "succession of world-class wines that are out of this world," per the Wine Advocate. Although they have a string of 100 pointers under their belt, and all their wines offer relative value, the Wine Advocate posits that "a real bargain is the regular cuvee of Chateauneuf du Pape.”
With a a sub-$35 price tag, the 2012 Clos Saint-Jean Chateauneuf du Pape is a solid value. We’re in the same boat as Jeb Dunnuck of the Wine Advocate when he says, "there are few wines in the world I’d rather drink" and you’ll be able to savor this one over the next decade or more. Cheers!
