"you can’t go wrong with this estate and the quality is incredibly high" - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A WA95pt “blockbuster”, the 2012 Delas Hermitage ‘Domaine des Tourettes’ is arguably one of the greatest values for quality Hermitage. Its peers in the Northern Rhone (Jaboulet, Guigal, Chave) typically charge $100+ for similar juice even in an off vintage, but we've got this "powerful, concentrated and full-bodied effort" for a fraction of the price to those other producers. Better yet, we've got this today at the best price around!
Delas has seen a resurrection over the past 10-15 years since it came under the ownership of the Louis Roederer/Deutz Champagne firm. They had the foresight to turn to "the inspired leadership of winemaker/administrator Jacques Grange" (RP) and the results have been phenomenal, including a pair of RP100pt ratings for their luxury Hermitage 'Les Bessards'. Delas is now undoubtedly "one of the better sources of top-quality Rhones" (RP).
Add to that that the Tourettes bottling is sourced from estate plots, including Les Bessards, and you get some of the best Syrah that the Northern Rhone can produce. All this has combined into a “no nonsense, extremely high quality” wine, according to Jeb Dunnuck, in what he also called an “outstanding, classic year.”
A top-quality Hermitage for a steal of a price - we can’t recommend leaping at this opportunity fast enough! Cheers!
