"...the estate is consistently in the top handful of domaines in each vintage...If you don’t know about Domaine Giraud, you’re missing out." - Jeb Dunnuck
The brother sister team of Marie and Francois and Domaine Giraud have been putting out expressive, classic Chateauneuf du Pape ever since they took over in 2001. Today’s cuvee ‘Tradition’ is the family estate’s signature wine and it represents everything we love about old-school Chateauneuf, especially it’s old-fashioned price! With help from Philippe Cambie, Parker’s 2010 Winemaker of the Year, the Girauds make some of the appellations “most expressive, fruit-driven wines” (Vinous) and are “consistently in the top handful of domaines in each vintage” (Dunnuck). The ‘Tradition’ is among the best values in the southern Rhone, and we have the 2012 vintage for 30% off!
‘Tradition’ is the Domaine’s classic cuvee, inspired by their own affection for family history in the region, and its elegant, medium-bodied personality is endlessly charming. The siblings took over in 2001 and one of their first moves was to bring on a family friend, the now iconic oenologist Philippe Cambie. A former rugby player (and teammate of the elder Giraud), Cambie is now considered the Southern Rhone’s most respected oenologist, and he cites his work with the Giraud family as one of the greatest experiences of his career!
The 2012 ‘Tradition’ will please today with it’s vibrant and pure fruit, but will still develop nicely over the next 10 years. Stock up today on this back-vintage gem. Cheers!
