"a gorgeous combination of fruit, acidity and pure structure" - Galloni
Dumol has been on a seemingly endless winning streak for years, and today we have one of their top single-vineyard Pinots from the Widdoes Vineyard in Green Valley. The 2012 ‘Ryan’ is a stunningly full and complex California Pinot Noir that nabbed 96pts from Robert Parker, who has remarked on the “spectacular quality that has emerged from DuMOL for over a decade.” This is a tremendous choice for any collector of top new world Pinot!
Winemaker Andy Smith was confident that 2012 was undoubtedly their best vintage ever thanks to the warm even weather causing an abundance of high quality, but not overripe fruit. DuMol’s 2012 Pinots, Galloni declared, were “rich and layered but never heavy."
The ‘Ryan’ is composed of Pinot Noir from the Widdoes VIneyard, planted entirely with the slow ripening Martini clone, known for exotic elegance, with great aging potential and savory character. The DuMol ‘Ryan’ is already showing “Burgundian-like notes of raspberries, blueberries, sassafras, cola, tobacco leaf and barbecued meats” (RP), but will continue to evolve gracefully.
DuMol Pinots will go head to head with their Burgundian brethren – as Galloni says, "DuMol occupies a pretty solid position in the middle of the stylistic spectrum, which is one of the reasons they are so delicious. In my view, these wines have never been better." At 5 years past the vintage date, the 2012 'Ryan' is in a great spot, and for a collectible age-worthy Pinot Noir of magnificent proportion and class, you really cannot beat DuMol. Cheers!
