2012 Passopisciaro 'Passopisciaro'
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $29.94 (reg. $39.94)
Sicily has come a long way from the old days when its only calling card was something called Marsala, and perhaps no one has helped enhance Sicily's reputation than a Tuscan named Andrea Franchetti. We are thrilled to be able to offer his stunning WA93-point 2012 'Passopisciaro' bottling, and it's available today for the lowest price of any vintage currently on the market!
Franchetti's journey to become Sicily's de facto wine ambassador started off controversially, making wine from non-native grapes like Petite Verdot. Several years ago, he reinvented his approach on Mt. Etna and the result was this gorgeous red from the indigenous Nerello Mascalese. Franchetti's 'Passopisciaro' evokes the richer aspects of Burgundy and Alto-Piemonte, all wrapped in an ash dusted blanket of that concentrated volcanic terroir. The terraced vines are exceptionally old (over 60 years on average) and have deep roots on the high-altitude slopes.
“There's a pretty sense of lift and buoyancy in the mouth thanks to the pure energy and intensity of its fruit. Despite the wine's light color, this is a firecracker red,” per the Wine Advocate.
'Passopisciaro' is easily our best-selling wine from Sicily, and we can see why; this fantastic wine can transport you with just a taste. Drinking nicely now with a decant, we suggest holding for a few years if possible, and served a bit cooler than cellar temperature. Stock up today with this under-the-radar gem. Cheers!
