"...a very fine Clos Vougeot made with a deft hand."
- Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Alain Hudelot’s star has been rising for some time now, or rather the domaine that bears his name, since his grandson Charles van Canneyt took over the estate in 2007. Canneyt has helped to bring the Domaine to new heights, from a solid ‘respectable’ to full on “kicking arse” as the Wine Advocate wrote. The young winemaker has earned himself a fair amount of Burgundy fame in the process, as well as serious praise, which is exactly what you should try his Clos Vougeot grand cru, a true game-changer for the vineyard.
John Gilman has declared the 2013 Hudelot-Noellat Clos Vougeot “the star of the vintage”, so if you're looking to stock your cellar with high-quality Grand Cru, you can't go wrong with this "great Clos Vougeot" at a terrific price.
Clive Coates has described the wines of Hudelot-Noellat as those of “great flair and concentration: full, opulent and multidimensional.” No surprise too, as Hudelot-Noellat has an enviable footprint here in the Cote de Nuit, with parcels in Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, and Clos Vougeot. The grand cru of Clos Vougeot dominates the eponymous commune, perhaps to a fault as its size is the reason for its inconsistency. Terroir may be King, but in Clos Vougeot, there's great comfort in seeing the Hudelot-Noellat name tucked near the bottom of the label, since the estate has cut loose all but their best two parcels!
In a vintage Tanzer called “endlessly intriguing...for long-time connoisseurs” the Hudelot-Noellat Clos Vougeot has exceptional personality, pedigree, and elegance. We urge you to act fast, as the pricing on Hudelot-Noellat is still way below what its current reputation justifies. Cheers!
