"The second time I tasted the 2013 one word came to mind: elation."
- 97 points, Antonio Galloni
If you're looking for the best that the Chianti Classico area has to offer, then today we've got you covered. Since the early 1980's Castello di Ama has been an integral part of Chianti’s rise as a quality wine-producing region and "their single-vineyard Chianti Classicos...are benchmarks for the Chianti region and for Tuscany in general," per James Suckling. Add in the phenomenal vintage conditions that the region experienced in 2013 and you'll know why Antonio Galloni says of Castello di Ama's, those “who can find the 2013s should not hesitate, they are sublime.”
The pinnacle of Castello di Ama's "stunning set of wines" (AG) in 2013 (and a highly coveted wine regardless of vintage), La Casuccia now carries the 'Gran Selezione' designation. Gran Selezione Chianti Classico is above Riserva, with only 10% of the region's wines qualifying. Wines must be 100% estate grown, aged a minimum of 30 months before release, and pass a rigorous tasting panel resulting in a guarantee of quality.
This is a very limited-production wine (less than 350 cases made), and little of it makes it to the US. We've got a small parcel in stock, and if you're a fan of the best Sangiovese-dominant wines that Italy has to offer then you'll want to make moves to get this one into your collection. Cheers!
