Chapoutier needs little introduction, as this master of the Rhone crafts collectible and in demand blockbusters from Hermitage to Chateauneuf du Pape with unswerving devotion to terroir. The Croix de Bois is an exceptional example of Michel Chapoutier’s deft touch in Chateauneuf and we have been able to secure the 2013 vintage for easily the lowest price in the country!
Sourced from an 80-year-old plot of Grenache vines on the eastern edge of Chateauneuf du Pape, the Croix de Bois benefits from the tiny area’s distinctive ‘galets roules’ soil. The result is a focused and elegant Grenache, which when raised entirely in concrete, make a "gorgeously pure" and classically styled Chateauneuf du Pape. The Wine Advocate described 2013 as “an old-school styled vintage” that favored elegance, complexity, and structure. Chapoutier really nailed it with the '13 'Croix de Boix', a Chateauneuf that shows the vintage with its refreshing structure and herbal complexity.
Chapoutier’s collection of “Selections Parcellaires” or tiny single-plot bottlings from the best vineyards throughout the Rhone, are the most definitive expression of terroir in the Rhone. Robert Parker has made no effort to hide his appreciation of Chapoutier, declaring his top cuvees, “consistently among the world's greatest wines” and “of singular greatness as well as longevity.” This elegant cool-vintage Chateauneuf will please for a decade or more, and particularly appeal to those who appreciate the more old-school style! Cheers!
