2013 Chateau Puech Haut Clos du Pic
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $49.94 (reg. $59.94)
A WA95-point “wine of the vintage” that clocks in under $50, the 2013 Chateau Puech-Haut ‘Clos du Pic’ is is something that "should knock your socks off," per the Wine Advocate. An inky, structured "blockbuster effort," this will deftly hold its own against high-end offerings from the Rhone, and as the Wine Advocate suggests, it "is without a doubt one of the wines to seek out."
As one of Jeb Dunnuck’s “favorite estates from the south of France” Chateau Puech-Haut is proving that the Languedoc can easily compete with the Rhone for wines with Provencal charm, generosity and complexity. Proprietor Gerard Bru created this estate in 2000 and since then has been dedicated to elevating the south of France by employing top winemakers Michel Rolland, Claude Gros and Philippe Cambie.
The results, including this stellar 2013, have been phenomenal: "...this estate is at the top of its game and the wines go from strength to strength, what showing can be achieved with low yields and a focus on making the best wine possible. In addition to incredible quality, the entire lineup is stacked with value. Unfortunately, the upper-tier efforts are made in small quantities..." (WA)
Yields were kept extremely low and only a few hundred cases were produced. We were lucky to score a parcel and you won't currently find this vintage available anywhere else in the states. Clos du Pic is a stunning choice for fans of Southern France wines, and it should please for the next decade or more, so get yours while you can. Cheers!
