2013 Claude Dugat Gevrey Chambertin
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale: $64.94 (was: $109.94)
Claude Dugat has for decades been one of Burgundy’s most respected and revered ‘cult’ producers. His ceaseless desire to get the best out of some of Gevrey’s oldest vines with traditional methods has yielded exceptionally high quality wines that are among the region’s most sought-after.
Unfortunately, high quality also frequently means low quantity. When we were offered the opportunity to secure an allocation of Claude Dugat’s Gevrey Chambertin, we leapt as this kind of opportunity does not come often, and with Claude retiring in 2015, demand for these gems will likely increase beyond reasonable measure. We are beyond excited to be able to offer the 2013 Gevrey for 40% off the regular price. When you compare the price to his $500+ grand crus, well you can understand our excitement!
Nobody knows every inch of Gevrey quite like Claude Dugat. Dugat’s knowledge of the terroir here is indispensable. Whether he’s making a cru or village wine, his detailed understanding leads to overachieving quality with every release. 2013 is a real Burgundy lover’s vintage, and for “long-time connoisseurs” it is “endlessly intriguing” (Tanzer).
For the Gevrey Chambertin village, this vintage shows beautiful elegant red fruit, minerality, and floral perfume. An “elegant and racy” expression, it will age gloriously through the next 10+ years at least. Cheers!
