2013 DeLille Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Four Flags’
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $54.94 (reg. $64.94)
Today’s ‘Four Flags’ Cabernet Sauvignon is part of a stunning crop of wines coming out DeLille Cellars in Washington State, and is an absolute must for those who love good old fashioned Cab. The Wine Advocate praised DeLille’s “great lineup of wines” and awarded the 'Four Flags' 95-points for “classic Red Mountain characteristics of black fruit, smoked herbs, licorice, graphite and dusty minerality.” The flags represents the four top Red Mountain vineyards that DeLille sources from for this bottling, but it’s the over 40% from the legendary Ciel du Cheval that gives the wine is exceptional vibrant dark fruit and focused minerality. Add to Cheval the Upchurch, Klipsun, and Grand Ciel vineyards too and you got a knockout vineyard blend from one of the finest sources for Bordeaux varietals in the US.
Chris Upchurch has been the guiding force behind DeLille for decades now, and his extensive experience as a both vineyard manager and winemaker shine in his masterful multi-vineyard blends. The 2013 was the year of the Cabernet in Washington State, and while Rhone and Bordeaux varieties in general fared well, Cabernet took the lion’s share of the plaudits.
DeLille is a Washington State pioneer, and compared to its peers (like Quilceda Creek), the pricing remains remarkably reasonable for the level of quality in the bottle. This is a Cabernet for the cellar and it will have a long life ahead, so stock up to enjoy for many years to come. Cheers!
