Domaine de la Janasse is an historic producer that is “one of the benchmark estates in the Rhone Valley” for Jeb Dunnuck, and “one of the half dozen or so finest estates in Chateauneuf du Pape" according to Robert Parker. They deliver the goods yet again in 2013 with their 95-point Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf du Pape, "a fabulous wine" that is sure to wow anyone who follows this storied region with a pure but progressive style.

Domaine de la Janasse has a stunning track record in the Rhone, and the latest generation, Christophe and Isabelle Sabon, are finding ways to continue to push the quality upwards. For Robert Parker “their Chateauneuf du Papes are among the top three or four wines of the vintage." This 2013 is primarily Grenache and features a hallmark Rhone profile of dark berries, anise and earth. With more than a handful on years in bottle, this classic rendition of Châteauneuf du Pape is in prime form, but is sure to drink gorgeously for the remainder of the decade. Cheers!

95 points, Wine Spectator: “Features ample stuffing, with lots of dark plum sauce, crushed cherry and warm blackberry confiture flavors forming the core. Melted black licorice, plum eau-de-vie and black tea notes fill in the background. Reveals a lovely echo of ganache at the very end. Best from 2018 through 2027.”

94 points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “...the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes comes more from the rolled pebble soils the region is famous for, and always shows the richer, more powerful profile imparted from these soils...Exhibiting a deep purple color, it offers fabulous dark berry fruits, licorice, Provençal herbs and earthy/stony minerality on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, ripe and with impressive sweetness to its tannin, it's a fabulous wine that will have 10-15 years of overall longevity.” -Jeb Dunnuck
