"There is a sense of class suffused into many of Mortet's wines that are rarely matched not only within Gevrey-Chambertin, but within the Côte de Nuits."
- Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
From one of the Gevrey’s “most respected young vignerons” (Wine Advocate) comes the ‘Mes Cinq Terroir,’ a select vineyard blend by Domaine Denis Mortet that is a stunning (and affordable) glimpse into the upper echelon of the Côte de Nuits. This is undoubtedly a superior village Gevrey Chambertin from a producer whose entire portfolio from the humble village to his cult grand crus are serious overachievers thanks to “meticulous attention to detail from the vineyard onward” (Clive Coates).
Considered a “leading light” in Gevrey Chambertin (Wine Advocate), Arnaud Mortet has run his family’s domaine since the tragic passing of Denis Mortet in 2006. Despite the difficult transition, today Arnaud’s wines show that this domaine continues to shine just as bright thanks to the grand cru treatment given to the entire range of wines. The young vigneron has continued his pursuit of elegance by reducing the use of new oak and focusing on balance and purity.
Starting with the 2013 vintage Arnaud reintroduced this ‘Mes Cinq Terroirs,’ a blend old vines with (formerly) young vines that have finally reached peak form. Neil Martin of the Wine Advocate has declared this first vintage of the reintroduced botting “one of Mortet’s best cuvées...a great success.” With such high praise flowing towards this newly revamped estate, it’s no wonder so little of it comes stateside!
We have this today for the best price around, and given the tremendous quality of their 1er and grand crus this is a no-brainer purchase for serious Burgundy fans. Cheers!
