"Giraud is now one of the more exciting domaines in Chateauneuf du Pape" - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Here’s a compelling, old-school Chateauneuf from "one of the up-and-coming super-stars of the appellation" (WA) for an unbeatable price! Domaine Giraud has risen to the top ranks of Chateauneuf du Pape thanks to to the brother/sister team of Francois and Marie Giraud, who have organically farmed their family’s 50 acre holdings since 2001. They are indisputably part of a new era in the Southern Rhone and their portfolio of reds are redefining how honest and pure a Chateauneuf du Pape can be.
Their 2013 ‘Tradition’ seized a challenging vintage by the horns to create an energetic, seamless nectar elevated by racy acidity. "The 2013s make the most of the vintage, without a doubt, and are up with the top wines" (WA). This wine is mid-weight and brilliant ruby red with baked forest fruit, brandied plum, and candied citrus on the nose. Lovely floral and herbal elements are interspersed among waves of fruit making it both an old-school meditation wine as well as a hedonist’s delight.
Another thing to note is that "the “basic,” or “traditional,” bottlings from even the finest Châteauneuf producers often deliver exceptional price/quality rapport, and in many cases these releases come far closer to the quality of their limited-production high-end siblings than price differentials would suggest." (VM)
The 2013 is right dab in the middle of its drinking window, and we are offering it ready to go at over 30% off our regular price; in fact, you won’t find better price for any vintage. While Domaine Giraud is certainly making exciting wines for your cellar, this 2013 is a refreshing chance to sit back and enjoy – very pleasing for the palate and the wallet. Cheers!
