2013 Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits St Georges Aux Boudots 1er Cru

Getting an allocation of Domaine Jean Grivot’s in-demand 1er and Grand Cru Burgundies is hard enough, after all Clive Coates declared it “one of the great domaines of Burgundy.” Keeping them in stock, however, has proven impossible!
Grivot’s expressive and small-production crus have seen an explosion of interest as the Wine Advocate recently declared the domaine only “just outside the top tier of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti or Leroy.” Obviously Grivot’s reds remain far more reasonably priced in comparison to their qualitative peers, and wines like today’s Aux Boudots 1er Cru are a must for those Burgundy fans seeking a top-notch, cellar-worthy red.
This northerly premier cru is right on the border with Vosne-Romanee and typically shows more of that climat’s personality. This is classic Burgundy terroir with gravelly, well-drained soil that leads to tiny concentrated berries, and in a cool vintage like 2013, that was essential for success. Grivot’s expression of the terroir is described as a “baroque Nuits-Saint-Georges with outstanding energy, fine-grained tannins and slow-building length” (Vinous).
The lack of hype surrounding the 2013 red Burgundies has been a boon for collectors and connoisseurs, as it was a “fascinating, intellectual vintage” where the intricate differences between terroirs were on full display. That’s why we're still able to bring you delightful examples like this Aux Boudots 1er Cru, which at five years of age is now finally approaching its full potential.
Grab some of this “sophisticated” premier cru from Jean Grivot today for the lowest price in the U.S. Cheers!
