"I was immensely pleased with [Rossignol Trapet's] 2013s and, given that they tend to be more reasonably priced than other Gevrey growers, they come highly recommended." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Today’s village Gevrey Chambertin is an old vine beauty from the Cote de Nuits’ Rossignol Trapet, a domaine that seems to be outdoing themselves with every vintage these days. With a stark jump in quality of late, Rossignol Trapet is now a supremely “under-rated” address that “deserves higher respect” according to the Wine Advocate. Fortunately, with the lowest price of any vintage, it’s fairly convenient to see for yourself how the domaine is putting their 40-80-year-old Gevrey vines to use.
The 2013 Gevrey is deep, red and black fruited Pinot with glorious aromas of pure fruit that meld seamlessly with notes of smoke, earth, and black tea. This is an old vine Gevrey that will age as well some Cru bottlings thanks to the great structure and balance. The cool, but late ripening vintage led to “endlessly intriguing” wines (Tanzer) that really reflect the character of each site, and Rossignol Trapet produced a lineup of 2013 Gevrey Chambertin that “come highly recommended” by the Wine Advocate. Neil Martin called this bottle of Gevrey “effortless” and John Gilman praised it as a “fine example of the vintage.”
With a 30% discount and the best price around, the Rossignol Trapet Vieilles Vignes Gevrey is a superb value for old vine village Burgundy and it will drink gorgeously over the next decade, so stock up today. Cheers!
