"one of my favorite wineries for Burgundian-styled Chardonnays" - Robert Parker
From the magical Durell Vineyard, “one of the best-known sites in Sonoma”(AG), comes Hartford Court’s ‘Stone Cote’ Chardonnay in yet another blockbuster Sonoma vintage. This 95-point beauty has all the class and pedigree of a grand cru Burgundy, and Parker has described previous vintages as a “California version of Chevalier-Montrachet” that can hold its own against wines twice the price from Marcassin and Aubert.
The 2013 vintage was exceptional for Sonoma Chardonnay, producing wines that are "simply magnificent" according to Galloni, and the Hartford Family has crafted possibly the best version of the 'Stone Cote' bottling ever made. This beauty exhibits a “gorgeously pure, textured personality [and] terrific acidity as well as focus” (RP). This is not the first vintage Robert Parker has fallen head over heels for, as he has regularly praised the label for their “Burgundian-styled Chardonnay” that “could easily be mistaken for Cote de Beaune grand crus."
The Hartford's are no strangers to this kind of praise. Since 1994, their ultra-artisanal single vineyard has thrilled the press and the public, though with minuscule volume. The Hartford's have a sixth-sense for sussing out worthwhile micro-climates to make their wines, and the Stone Cote plot of the Durell Vineyard is just such a magical site. At only $54.94, this is a shocking value compared to its peers in California, not to mention Burgundy! Enjoy now and over the next 10+ years. Cheers!
