2013 Il Marroneto Rosso di Montalcino

On Sale $24.94 (reg. $32.94)
"Each year I am increasingly impressed with the wines I taste from Il Marroneto.” - Antonio Galloni
It doesn’t get any better than this for a “baby Brunello!” This Rosso is made from the estate’s declassified Madonna delle Grazie fruit—the same vines that produced the 100-point Brunello by the Wine Advocate in the 2010 vintage. And we have it today for the best price around!
The first carefully selected clones of Sangiovese vines were planted here in 1975 near the church of Madonna delle Grazie, which dates back to 1247, and for which the vineyard is named. In 1979 and 1984 the rest of the vines were planted making the youngest vines well over 30 years old today. The wines get better and better with each passing vintage and the press has become exceedingly more attracted to this estate.
Per noted Italian wine critic, Antonio Galloni:
“Il Marroneto might be the single most important yet under-the-radar estate in all of Montalcino"
"Since the 2000 vintage Il Marroneto's wines have ranked with the best.
Today, you'll be hard-pressed to find more vibrant, precise and pure examples of monovarietal Sangiovese anywhere in Italy.”
After a few moments in the glass, the Il Marroneto Rosso gives off notes of crushed red fruits, orange peel, leather and elegant floral notes. The red fruits carry over to the well-balanced palate displaying a harmonious combination of fresh acidity, nicely textured, integrated tannins and a smooth finish. 2013 appears to be shaping up as a terrific vintage if this Rosso is any indication!
This is definitely one to pick up by the case! Cheers!
