Charles Smith wears the mantle of Washington’s wild and charismatic vinter pretty darn well these days, having been named winemaker of the year by multiple publications just in the past decade. His Columbia Valley wines are some of Washington State’s most exciting and he is rapidly entering the pantheon of the region’s standard bearers. This 2013 Syrah from Morrison Lane is proof positive. Sourced from the oldest Syrah planting in the whole of Walla Walla, the mature, meticulously tended vines are more than able to withstand hot vintages (like 2013) producing a terrifically vibrant Syrah that will offer tremendous enjoyment for the next decade and a half.
Charles Smith’s 2013 releases are strong across the board, and according to the Wine Advocate, he is “in the top tier of producers in Washington State” producing Bordeaux and Rhone style wines that are “at the top of the pyramid and are flat out incredible wines.” As for Morrison Lane, the Wine Advocate gave it 95 points and declared it the “best vintage of this cuvee to date.” Showing a classically old world profile of black pepper, olive, dark fruits, and dried herbs, the Morrison Lane Syrah is supple, vibrant, and rich.
With only 400 cases of the 2013 Morrison Lane produced, we were pretty thrilled to get the allocation we did, so if you love Washington State Syrah as much as we do you owe it to yourself to reach out today! Cheers!
