"This cuvée has been consistently outstanding in recent vintages." - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
2013 red Burgundies continue to confound expectations as the best examples are proving to be stellar expressions of terroir with terrific age-worthy structure. Stephen Tanzer described 2013 as an “endlessly intriguing” vintage for “long-time connoisseurs” of classic red Burgundy.
With an exceptional reach throughout the best crus of Burgundy, Maison Louis Jadot is a yardstick for quality, making true-to-terroir wines with top-notch consistency in every vintage. Their 2013 Echezeaux Grand Cru is superb, with 10-20 years of development ahead and at a far more reasonable price than its artisanal peers. With a “firm tannic spine on the balanced and relatively powerful finish,” Burghound summed up the 2013 Jadot Echezeaux as a “beautiful effort,” and we couldn’t agree more!
Echezeaux is one of the top crus in the Cote de Nuits, abutting Vosne-Romanee, Vougeot, and Chambolle-Musigny, and home to some of the greatest names in Burgundy. Neil Martin has praised Jadot for standing “shoulder to shoulder with more bijou domaines” yet at much more reasonable prices. Jadot’s exceptionally diverse portfolio of 1er and Grand Crus proves that they know just how to handle each distinct terroir according to its needs.
While tinier, cult domaines command sometimes thousands of dollars for Echezeaux, Louis Jadot is, as always, a symbol of restraint. Despite this, Jadot’s Echezeaux continues to rise in esteem and newer releases are in excess of $200. Secure a few bottles today of this classic vintage and enjoy over the next 15-20 years. Cheers!
