2013 Meo-Camuzet Clos Vougeot
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $199.94 (reg. $269.94)
At the heart of Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet owns 14ha of some of the most celebrated crus in Burgundy. Their slice of Clos Vougeot however, is one of their most prized, and since Henri Jayer first helped Jean-Nicolas Méo start the family label, it has been among the most sought after and collectible expressions of this legendary grand cru. Prior to the 1980s, Méo-Camuzet leased many of their vineyards to Jayer, who was a mentor to Jean-Nicolas, and today the Méo family continues to make outstanding wine from their top crus. We're thrilled to have secured an allocation of this “classic Clos Vougeot” (Vinous) for the best price around, and it is an absolute must have for your cellar.
View From the Cellar’s John Gilman described the 2013 as a “stellar Clos Vougeot” and possibly “the finest young example of this grand cru that I have ever had the pleasure to taste in the cellars here.” Pretty high praise from one of Burgundy’s most well-respected critics. For much of the 20th century the Méo-Camuzet family were deeply involved in national politics and so leased their enviable holdings out instead of making their own wine. That all changed in 1985 when Jean-Nicolas Méo, along with Christian Faurois and advised by Henri Jayer, started estate bottling.
2013 was a year for great terroir above all else, and the best crus really stand high above the rest. Grab some of this legendary, collectible Clos Vougeot for the cellar, and you won’t be disappointed! Cheers!
