2013 Robert Mondavi Chardonnay Reserve
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $34.94 (reg. $39.94)
There’s no bigger name in Napa than Mondavi, and decades after its founder revolutionized the wine biz the classically styled cuvees coming out of this estate “remain very impressive wines” according to Robert Parker. At $34.94 this also remains one of the most fairly priced premium Napa Chardonnays on the market, and the best part is it’s made by Wine Enthusiast’s 2010 Winemaker of the Year Geneviève Janssen! Fans of this top California Chard will absolutely want to stock up for their next big occasion, as this is the absolute best pricing you will find!
The 2013 Mondavi Chardonnay Reserve is a lively ripe expression with loads of tension and a full range of classic flavors in the glass. 100% of the Mondavi Reserve is sourced from Carneros, arguably the best Chardonnay growing area in Napa and the reason for this bottle’s terrific combination of richness and energy. Unlike the rest of Napa, Carneros gets the brunt of the fog bank coming off San Pablo bay, which is why Burgundian varieties love it here.
Janssen and her team at Mondavi are “doing remarkable work” according to Galloni, and in 2013 they produced an outstanding array of wines. Wine Spectator called the vintage in Carneros “exceptional” and “distinct for vibrancy and density.” If you love California Chardonnay you will not want to skip on this vintage of Mondavi Reserve; well defined, energetic, and rich, it’s a sure crowd-pleaser for any occasion!
