San Polino is among the most exciting up-and-comers in Montalcino these days, and with a string of outstanding Brunello vintages, they have rocketed to the top of the heap. Since garnering a perfect score for their 2010 Brunello, San Polino has knocked it out of the park with every release, and 2013 is a goldmine for lovers of classically styled, elegant Brunello di Montalcino. Best of all, we've got San Polino's latest release for the best price around.
Farming a mere 4.5 hectares of Sangiovese, San Polino is a fully biodynamic estate, and owners Luigi and Katia do mostly everything themselves. Known for dense but elegant Brunello with “incredible clarity and pureness of fruit that is unequalled in the region” (James Suckling), San Polino has only been around since the late '90s but has quickly figured out that the secret to great Brunello is in the vineyard. Part of the credit has to go to nature of course, and 2013 was an absolute dream vintage, yielding “outstanding Brunellos from all of Montalcino’s quadrants” (Vinous).
This will drink beautifully over the next 10-15 years but should only need a few to start shining. Pair with classic Tuscan recipes or charcuterie and enjoy! Cheers!
