2014 Aldo Conterno Barbera dAlba Conca Tre Pile
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $34.94 (reg. $37.94)
Heralded as a producer of legendary Barolo, Poderi Aldo Conterno's ultra-low production single-vineyard Barbera from Bussia Soprana is a worthy member of family portfolio as well. The unpretentious ‘Conca Tre Pile’ Barbera has all the hallmarks of “one of the most impressive wine estates in all of Italy” (Suckling) sourced from the heart of Monforte, and at $34.94, it’s ridiculously well priced too. Tailor-made for the dinner table, this is a great opportunity to enjoy a world-class Italian red from Aldo Conterno without shelling out hundreds of dollars and waiting years to enjoy.
An extension of the legendary Conterno clan in Piemonte, Aldo Conterno built his own estate into one of Piemonte’s leading lights. While his brother Giovanni continued to build on their father’s legendary Giacomo Conterno estate, Aldo was inspired to take a new direction by his time in California in the 1950s. Over the course of four decades, Aldo forged a reputation as one of Italy’s most important winemakers. Aldo passed away in 2012, but his three sons Giacomo, Franco and Stefano, continue to craft “some of the most exquisite red wines on the planet” (Suckling).
Neighboring the vineyards of Conterno’s legendary Bussia Baroli, the Bussia Soprana vineyard brings the same level of elegance and perfume to Barbera, at an easy to swallow price! Only 600 cases made of the Conca Tre Pile so quantities are limited. Cheers!
