2014 Chapoutier Cote Rotie 'La Mordoree'
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale: $79.94 (was: $119.94)
While Michel Chapoutier's stunning Syrahs are considered “among the world's greatest wines” (Parker), that doesn’t mean they’re all destined for a long slumber in the back of the cellar. Today’s ‘La Mordoree’ is a gorgeously decadent Cote Rotie that is a perfect candidate for appreciating Chapoutier’s blockbuster style over the short to medium term. From 70-year-old vines nestled between the Cotes Blonde and Brune, the 2014 'La Mordoree' is both dark and rich but with surprisingly elegant tannin and lifted aromatics. With the lowest price of any vintage on the market, this is a superb candidate to bring your cellar up to the next level.
Michel Chapoutier is one of the world’s most lauded and influential winemakers. With over 30 perfect scores from the Wine Advocate (including one in the 2014 vintage), his “Selections Parcellaires” are the ultimate expressions of Rhone terroir. He certainly hit it out of the park in 2014, which Vinous described as an “approachable” vintage with “fresh, classic Syrah fruit.” La Mordoree is “on another level” according to the Wine Advocate, with a long and thrilling profile of spice, earth, and dark raspberry fruit - pretty much everything we love about Cote Rotie!
While like other vintages it has tremendous aging potential, this “thick, full-bodied and thrillingly pure” 2014 is also “approachable on release.” With this pricing, the lowest in the U.S., we definitely recommend grabbing a few, so you can try one today and cellar the rest to your taste. Cheers!
