"Despite the larger-than-life persona, these wines are dead serious and are always some of the best I'm able to taste from the state… the whole lineup is stacked with both quality and value.” - Jeb Dunnuck
Charles Smith is among Washington State’s most inimitable personalities and those of you who have tried any of his exceptional wines know that they are as wild and charismatic as Smith himself. Known for crafting “flat out incredible wines" per the Wine Advocate, the ‘King Coal’ from Stoneridge Vineyard might be both the most seamless and most intense wine in the K Vintners portfolio, and that is definitely saying something! This is a monumental Cab/Syrah blend that the Wine Advocate has hailed as “impeccably balanced” and “straight up delicious”, and we have it today for the best price around!
80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Syrah, the King Coal showcases a “flat-out gorgeous sense of texture, covering the palate from end to end with cherry flavors that glide on the finish” and a “knee-buckling” mouthfeel (Wine Enthusiast). It has some seriously silky tannins in reserve, so you know this will be even better once it all starts to unwind with a few more years.
Smith recently sold several of his other brands to Constellation, so his focus will continue to be on K Vintners and other pet projects. That’s great news for fans of his “sensational lineup of Rhône and Bordeaux blends” (Dunnuck) as this “ultimate terroirist” (Wine Advocate) shows no signs of slowing down!
