2014 Chateau Barde-Haut

On Sale $29.94 (reg. $34.94)
"Barde-Haut is an impressively run estate that has been fashioning outstanding as well as reasonably priced wines..." - Robert Parker
Robert Parker has praised Barde Haut as "one of my go-to, consistently excellent St.-Emilions that tends to over-perform its pedigree" as well as "one of the super values in Bordeaux", and nowhere is that more apparent than in the release that we have from this property today - their double 94-point 2014 effort for under 30 bucks!
Barde-Haut is part of the family-owned Vignobles Garcin, alongside Clos L’Eglise in Pomerol and Haut-Bergey in Pessac-Léognan, among others. The vineyards are extremely well-situated, not far from top names like Troplong Mondot, Trottevielle, La Mondotte, and rising star Tour Saint Christophe.
This is one of our favorite Bordeaux wines because it combines youthful approachability with age-worthy structure at a tremendously accessible price. Loads of blackberry, fig and chalky minerality are supported by fine tannins and lively, focused acidity. Layered and complex, this is surprisingly easy drinking for such a young wine, but don't be afraid to stash it away for another 5-10 years.
For under $30, this is a seriously smart buy as a house wine while your trophies age, and it has still got a whole lot of life in it yet. For value-minded Bordeaux fans, this is an absolute steal and you'll want to load up by the case. Cheers!
