2014 Chateau Clos Fourtet (St Emilion)
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale: $79.94 (was: $94.94)
Clos Fourtet has been soaring to the top of the heap in Saint Emilion, with the 2009 earning 100-points from the Robert Parker, and today’s 2014 is another in a fabulous run of vintages, described as a “stunning, breathtaking wine” and “one of the stars of the vintage” (Vinous). Unfortunately, that success comes at a price, and the past few vintages (plus the ‘09 and ‘10) are all trading well north of $100. Today’s 2014 is one of the top Saint Emilions of the vintage, and our terrific sale price makes this a fantastic chance to grab “one of the great wines of Bordeaux” (Parker).
Since the early part of the millenium, Clos Fourtet has seen a “dramatic renaissance” per Parker thanks to the efforts of Philippe Cuvelier, who has renovated the famous estate with an aim to honor the “tremendous potential of this extraordinary terroir.” The limestone and clay found on this plateau are perfectly suited to bring exceptional balance and complexity that great Right Bank reds are known for. The 2014 Clos Fourtet is “one of the classiest, most understated wines of the year” according to Vinous and Right Bank fans will absolutely want to stock as much of this away in their cellar as they can mange. This 97-point beauty will age like a champ, and with the exception of a few listings for less sought-after vintages (i.e. 2007, 2013), you'll rarely find Clos Fourtet for this price. Cheers!
