“When it comes to traditional Châteauneuf du Pape, no one does it better than Domaine du Pégaü...As I’ve said in the past, it’s almost impossible to have too much Pégaü in the cellar!” - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
It is so easy to get lost in the sea of modern style Chateauneuf du Pape that we forget just how elegant this wine can be, especially when it’s Domaine du Pegau. No one is better at making the more traditional, dare we say rustic, Chateauneuf than Pegau, who despite shifting trends and tastes still commands one of the most loyal customer bases in the appellation. The Cuvee Reservee is the most traditional of Pegau’s cuvees, as well as the most affordable, particularly given that the 100-point cuvee Capo goes for hundreds of dollars!
Tradition is the watchword at Pegau, as per Robert Parker, “if you want to taste what the old style Châteauneuf du Pape of the forties, fifties, and early sixties tasted like, buy a bottle of Domaine du Pégau”, and little has changed with the new generation (Laurence Féraud calls this her “little Burgundy”). The 2014 Cuvee Reservee is “a gutsy style” according to Wine Spectator, and a “beautiful wine” (Wine Advocate). The track record at Pegau for elegant, traditional Châteauneuf is long and according to Parker, they are “some of my favorite wines in the world.”
Featuring 80% Grenache with Syrah, Mourvedre, and a smattering of traditional Rhone varieties, the Cuvee Reservee is a charming medium-bodied Chateauneuf with traditional characteristics like smoked meats, dried herbs, and brambly fruit. Pegau has one of the most loyal followings in the Rhone so grab a case of the Cuvee Reservee today, our stock will not last. Cheers!
