2014 Domaine Tempier Bandol 'Cuvee Classique'
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $37.94 (reg. $41.94)
The tiny commune of Bandol has an outsized reputation thanks to the twin pillars of its world-famous rosé and otherworldly Bandol Rouge. Here in Bandol, the name Tempier tends to reign above all others and there is no more classic expression of Mourvedré than their ‘Cuvee Classique.’ Tempier’s multi-vineyard cuvee is the most complete and classic expression of Bandol available today, and it is made in the same original style originated by Lucien Peyraud in 1940.
We've got the 2014 Cuvee Classique for 30% off and the lowest price of any vintage on the market, so whether you are just starting to appreciate the dark, savory, and elegant qualities of Mourvedré or fancy yourself a collector of this characterful wine, this is a phenomenal opportunity to stock up!
The Bandol appellation is a mere 2,700 sun-baked acres, forming a large seaside amphitheater. While Mourvedré often plays second (or fourth) fiddle in the Rhone, in this tiny corner of Provence it is king. Tempier’s reputation in the US is “well-deserved” according to the Wine Advocate, as their Bandol is at the “top of the hierarchy.” Lucien and Lulu Peyraud built both estate and the modern identity of Bandol over the better half of a century, and today winemaker Daniel Ravier presides over the newly renovated, and now biodynamic, property.
The pure, meaty character of Bandol sines through here with fresh tilled earth, garrigue, and intense red fruits. At this stellar price it's an easy case buy and it will age gracefully over the next 10 years. Cheers!
