2014 Etude Pinot Noir Estate
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $29.94 (reg. $34.94)
Since 1982 Etude has been the name to beat in Carneros thanks to their ever-popular (and phenomenally well priced) Pinot and Chardonnay. Over the course of those 30 plus years Etude has helped define the appellation. Today’s 2014 Etude Estate Pinot Noir is a complex, juicy, and layered Carneros Pinot Noir that is just a joy to drink, and for under thirty bucks, it’s at the perfect price point for entertaining, or just having on hand for when you’re in the Pinot mood!
Started by Pinot legend Tony Soter, who now hangs his hat in Oregon but continues to consult here, Etude has found the sweet spot for Carneros Pinot Noir, both in style and terroir. For the 2014 Pinot, this Napa Green Certified Winery used estate-grown fruit from the Grace Benoist Ranch. Across the estate’s unique site there is a range of distinct soil types planted with carefully selected varieties, including no fewer than 24 different Pinot clones. While the Carneros climate is already suited to Burgundian varieties, this distinct patch in the North-West corner has a good deal of rocky, volcanic soil, which translates to a sense of place that is a world apart from other ordinary Carneros offerings.
This 2014 is sure to appeal to those seeking darker, spicier notes of wild berries and earth in their Pinot, and coming in at under thirty bucks, it’s a great value in California Pinot. Cheers!
